Clifton Counselling

About Me

I describe myself as an Integrative Therapist using a variety of therapeutic models. These include a Humanistic Person-Centred Approach, incorporating Psychodynamic concepts and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. In addition to these, I also draw from Transactional Analysis, Mindfulness, and Psycho-Educational techniques.

Psycho-Educational techniques provide information and support to better understand how and why we may face difficulties and how these may impact on us. As a result, we are empowered to use our own inner resources to achieve wellbeing. Often, when we have a greater understanding, anxiety and fear are diminished.

I have enormously valued my own therapeutic journey and the positive effects I have experienced. My belief is that a bespoke approach for each therapeutic relationship is essential and enriches the therapeutic journey. An awareness to the evolving needs of clients at different stages of the journey underpins my work.

I am a Registered member of the BACP and an Accredited member of the NCS and I am fully insured for public liability as well as professional indemnity. As part of my ethical approach, I adhere to regular clinical supervision as required by the BACP to enhance my clinical practice. In addition to this, I am constantly updating my knowledge through Continuing Professional Development courses as a commitment to my work and to my clients.

I am passionate about my work as a Counsellor and believe my experience in a client-focused role over the last 30 years has strengthened my ability to form strong therapeutic relationships, which research shows is the primary factor in successful therapy.

I feel I am an instinctive and gentle therapist and create a healing and safe space for you to explore your feelings and thoughts in a timely manner.

My work has been recognised by Bristol Community Health and in 2016 I received a BOSCA for Outstanding Moments of Clinical Care. I was also nominated in 2017 for a BOSCA award for inspiring others.

In addition to my private practice, I have had other counselling roles:

  • Working with adult survivors of historic abuse and trauma; alongside this I worked with addiction and self-harming behaviours offering specialist counselling.
  • Coordinating the Counselling Service for post and perinatal counselling to mothers and families affected by post-natal illness. Alongside this I worked with complex trauma and various other health professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Working with Macmillan Cancer Rehabilitation and Support Services to empower clients living with cancer. This included setting up a support group for clients living with cancer.
