Supervision

Having a space to reflect on our work is essential to enhancing our work with clients and our wellbeing. As with my clients and helping people make sense of their lives and fulfil their potential, I am passionate about working with my supervisees. I view supervision and supporting others who do the same as an important part of my professional practice. I focus on supervision enhancing client work by enabling the development of ethical effective and reflective practice in my supervisees.

As with counselling, my approach is relational given the relationship is the most important aspect of the work we do with our clients. When a supportive relationship is offered all other aspects can be bought to the surface and explored with curiosity. I believe my supervision offers an ethical and supportive opportunity for you to explore your client work in a structured way and deepen your understanding of yourself as a counsellor. I aim to offer what is important to me in supervision: trust, respect, collaboration, emotional support, reflection, sharing knowledge and ideas.

My training background has been with the British Psychological Society (BPS) Supervision Skills training. This course equipped me with the skills to enhance the quality of my supervisee’s client work through a focus on enabling your ethical, effective, and reflective practice. I have knowledge in a range of models and frameworks of supervision, professional and regulatory frameworks, methods techniques and responsibilities, feedback and evaluation and wellbeing.

I particularly enjoy working within the relational Seven Eyed Supervision Model (Hawkins and Shohet, 1985) through which I focus on seven areas encompassing the client, the therapist, their process and interventions, the supervisor and their process, the relationship between therapist, client and supervisor, and the wider system (the current and historical background of the client-therapist-supervisor relationship).

I have experience of working with people who work in a medical setting, together with those working in perinatal mental health, trauma and large organisations and charities.

I offer 1:1 supervision at Clifton or Penny Brohn locations.
